We had the opportunity recently to design a very small project for some old friends and clients. We fit the work in between heartbeats, stealing a couple moments here and there between deadlines for our larger projects. It was refreshing. Sometimes smaller projects, perfectly timed, seem like a little vacation.
The project was a built-in set of bookcases and base cabinets which double as informal seating. The base cabinets hide the unwieldy stereo equipment and fill what previously seemed like overly deep niches to the side of the fireplace. We had designed the fireplace surround, hearth, and mantle years earlier.
It only took us a few hours and one meeting to get the design together. And since we had a great contractor and plenty of trust from our clients the details were pared down to a single 8-1/2″ x 11″ page.
